Help us name our first solar power farm in Atlantis!
Cape Town is the first South African municipality to begin construction of a solar power farm of this size, which will be directly connected to the City’s electrical grid and supply clean, renewable energy to Cape Town.
Because this ground-breaking new plant is located in Atlantis, we want the name to reflect the community and the spirit of its residents. If you are an Atlantis resident, we invite you to submit your suggestions for naming the new plant until 31 August 2025.

On 19 July, in the spirit of Nelson Mandela Day, Lesedi proudly handed over a multi-active media centre to Witsands Primary School. The centre features a boardroom-style setup and a comfortable library section designed to encourage reading and learning in a welcoming environment.
Mayor Visits Cape Town’s First-Ever Solar Plant in Atlantis
Cape Town’s Executive Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis, recently visited the Atlantis Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Plant, a historic renewable energy project currently under construction by the Lesedi Technoserve Consortium. This marks the City’s first solar power plant and, once completed, it will feed 7 megawatts (MW) of electricity directly into Cape Town’s grid.
Construction begins on SA’s first City-run solar PV plant in Atlantis
Cape Town Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis, and Energy Mayco Member, Alderman Xanthea Limberg, have turned the sod at the City’s 7MW – 10 MW Atlantis solar photovoltaic (PV) plant. Cape Town is the first metro in South Africa to start construction on its own solar PV plant as the City moves to diversify energy resources and become future-fit.
